African Print Worn Right For Spring And Summer

October 02, 2017

Let me first say that being an African is not just my birth right. It is that which can only be found within me and that which makes me ME. I love everything that comes with just being an African, i.e. the culture, customs and traditions. Obviously I do take everything that is meaningful to me, that which I can amend to make sense to me and leave what is not relevant or has no importance to me. With that said, not a month goes by without me wearing either a dress or skirt in prints that are inspired or symbolise something special from this beautiful continent of ours; Africa.

I would be lying if I say that these prints represent our tribes in their totality because if we trail back to eons ago, we will find that our people used to wear other materials than the fabrics we are seeing today. But as time evolved, people learned new and better ways of covering themselves and with that came the identity carved for themselves through the colours that resonated with them. Then they started experimenting with prints, textures etc.

Today’s look stems from this beautiful print on the skirt. It is simply gorgeous. I love that in the spring and summer seasons, I can pair it with bright colours like yellows, whites and even turquoise blue. Now imagine in the winter months, I then pair it with dark greens, greys and blacks? This goes to show that you can wear anything you want to fit whatever occasion. For this particular look, I went for mustard shirts and bag; and green espadrilles. Espadrilles are a girl’s best friend when it comes to comfort because they often provide the balance that most heeled shoes don’t. They are a nice breather your feet need every once in a while without sacrificing style. They also come in a plethora of styles that you can just choose what tickles your fancy.
